ALA Care Home

ALA Care Home

Project Challenges

Refloor 100-200 rooms for ALA Care, two rooms at a time.

The three care homes were still occupied when work took place, requiring extra care and attention.

Complete in a timely manner to minimally disrupt the ever-present residents.

Excess backing under carpets requiring machine use.

The Bradbury Flooring Solution

Three care homes meant our work was cut out for us, and we knew we needed to be as considerate and efficient as possible. There’s nothing we like more than a challenge at Bradbury, especially one with a bit of time pressure.

The nature of the job meant that we were required to re-floor two rooms every two days. The decorators would finish their work, and we’d move in to lay Polyflor Forest FX sheet vinyl flooring. This particular material creates a cleaner finish and is incredibly easy to wash, without sacrificing homeliness.

Flooring is what we do every day. What we don’t do every day, necessarily, is work around dozens of elderly care home tenants. Each day we’d greet the residents with a smile and a chat, get to know some of them and make sure they were as comfortable as possible with our presence. We like to think that most of them enjoyed having us around – a bit of a change and some new faces to chat away to!

After three to four months, every room across the three homes was completely refurbished. The projection of two rooms every two days was often beaten so the job was finished earlier than expected – always a bonus!

It’s a testament to all of our fitters that we were able to complete all three care homes within budget, on time and with minimal disruption to the residents. The project was a truly rewarding one to work on – and knowing that we’ve improved the quality of the surroundings for ALA occupants made it all worthwhile.
