Challenge

Agreeing a work schedule

Completing works to a tight timescale

Preparing the sub floors in old Victorian building and combining modern floor coverings and trims with original features

Solution

Working closely with the main contractor a work schedule was agreed that would enable us to work closely with other trades who were active on the project, ensuring that we had clear areas to prepare and fit the floor coverings. Liaising with other trades and the site foreman ensured that the job went smoothly and we were able to complete all the works on time.

Great care was taken in removing the old floor coverings and preparing the sub floors for the new floor coverings. A combination of latex smoothing compounds for the concrete sub floors and 6mm plywood for the timber sub floors were used to create a smooth surface and ensure a good quality finish. A hard wearing low level loop pile carpet tile was selected for all the bedrooms, hallways, stairways and living spaces in colour Charcoal. We fitted Polysafe vinyl to the kitchens and shower rooms with coved skirtings, giving a very neat and easy to clean finish. We used a Gradus aluminium trim fitted to the sub floor and flush with both the carpet tiles and the vinyls to create a minimalistic transition between the floor coverings. We also used Gradus G range aluminium nosings for the strairways.

The client was thrilled with the overall contemporary and comfortable look that worked really well with the original Victorian features.
